في هذا الصدد، قال أستاذ اقتصاديات البيئة بالقاهرة، علاء سرحان لموقع "اقتصاد سكاي نيوز عربية"، إن الهيدروجين والبطاريات هما نوعان ينتميان إلى السيارات التي ينتج عنها انبعاثات صفرية، بهدف التقليل من غازات الاحتباس الحراري، والاعتماد على الوقود الأحفوري المتسبب في زيادتها بالغلاف الجوي وبالتالي تؤدي إلى التغيرات المناخية.
وتعد سيارة ميراي من تويوتا واحدة من السيارات الوحيدة التي تعمل بالهيدروجين والمتوفرة على نطاق واسع، إلى جانب سيارة نيكسو الرياضية متعددة الاستخدامات من شركة هيونداي الكورية الجنوبية.
